Yo Whale....we make the pilgrimage to Sedalia MO and buy sierra 2nds by the pound.....they ain't pretty but they shoot acceptably and miss just like the regular boxed variety...just cheaper. Sierra does not ship 2nds

Re: Nosler's Accubond in 7mm-08
Another Dang 9,
I was going to use a .243 that was given to me. It needed a new barrel and the stocks showed a lot of use. I was going to purchase a Lilja 6mm barrel with a 1-8 twist to handle 105gr to 108gr bullets. However, once the gunsmith informed me that the gun was abused and he wouldn't perform an action job ( blue print the action ). I purchased a new Remington 700 SPS in 7mm-08. In the future I was going to get an action job, Krieger or Lilja barrel, and rebed it in a Mcmillan stock. Possibly rechamber it in .260 Remington. If I can find a used gun I may make that into a .260 and keep my 7mm-08.

whale, was that action twisted or something? Must have been beat up pretty bad for a gunsmith to turn it away.

Re: Nosler's Accubond in 7mm-08
I don't know if the action was twisted per se. However, it was difficult to open and close. The gunsmith also talked about the bolt face, extractor and barrel throat. He recommended that I try online stores such as Cabelas, gunbrokers.com, etc for a used gun. He has personally picked up a few for the actions alone. My other option was to buy a less expensive Remington 700 model and shoot it in silhouette matches. If I liked the sport go with an upgrade hear and there or a full blown custom. So I purchased a Remington 700 SPS in 7mm-08. I would like to reload using the Redding dies that I just purchased from Bruno's Shooting Supply in Arizona. From reading this forum many shooters use the Sierra bullets for Chickens, pigs and turkeys. When it comes time for the rams a heavier style bullet is used ex: Nosler Accubond and Hornady A-Max. Many members debated about bullet construction, velocity, dwell time and energy transfer. What about Berger Bullets? Couldn't find any posts or threads about them. Finding powders, bullets, cases and primers is a daunting task these days. As I stated earlier I am just getting/using what I can find.

Re: Nosler's Accubond in 7mm-08
Whale, the SPS is a good deal. I bought 3 of them all from Walmart when they had a sale and Remington was having a rebate too. Paid $350 for each after sales and rebates. Building a .243 is a waste of money in this game(trust me I know, want a Hart barrel!) You will most likely start improvements as you shoot more. Stock would be the best place to start. Those plastic stocks are fine for just shooting fun but stink for anything else. Stockys Stocks .com has the cheapest stocks I've been able to find. Any hunter style of stock will get the job done. I have all mine bedded just as a rule of thumb. I'm shooting a .260 but even lite bullets drop C,P,T so any bullet you can get a lot of will do, find what you like and shoot em! IMR 4064 is a good powder I've used it with no problems. Any medium burn powder will work. Re15, Varget, IMR 4895 are all good.....if you can find them. I favour the Re15 but I'm down to my last pound others favour Varget. Work up a load and see what your gun likes.

Re: Nosler's Accubond in 7mm-08
Another Dang 9,
I was going to convert the .243 into a .260. However, the gunsmith informed me that the gun was a no go. Also, I was going to get an action job, lilja barrel and have it bedded into a McMillan Remington hunter style stock from Stockysstocks. Stockys let me exchange a McMillan Winchester hunter style stock for the Remington. As I stated earlier I never went hunting with my uncle do to his health issues and I had a Winchester model 70 in .300 win mag just sitting around. I contacted Tim "Moon" Roberts of Crescent Customs and he will transform my .300 win mag hunting rifle into a tactical/ long range rifle. At least now I will shoot it. "Moon" told me that he can do an action job ( blue print) my Remington 700 action, rebarrel it and rebed it into the McMillan Remington hunter stock. He also discussed having the gun chambered in .260 and 7-08 with removal barrels. Many people are doing it these days instead of having multiple guns. This seems very appealing to me since my nephew now wants a high power silhouette rifle to go along with the CZ 455 American that I just bought him. I was going to buy another Remington 700 SPS in 7mm-08 for him, but I will be out of work for six weeks due to surgery. I have many boxes of Nosler trophy grade loaded ammo using 140gr accubond bullets. Also, I purchased Sierra 130gr and 150gr HPBT Match King bullets from their web site to go along with the box of Nosler 160gr accubonds that I have for the rams. As far as powders go, I have plenty of 4064 and 4350 and I plan on working up some loads after my surgery. Thank you very much for your feedback.

Re: Nosler's Accubond in 7mm-08
I've shot a few of the Accubonds......at deer!! I don't like them from the 7-08 or 7 saum on deer sized game, they don't open up like ballistic tips, usually exit on a broadside shot less than 1.5", a good sized muley will run 100 yards after being hit with one and lay down alive. 140 Ballistic tip's pass the 4 second test nearly every time, at the shot I start counting, almost never make it to 4 before the deer is taking a dirt nap. I've been trying to get ahold of some E-Tips, they might be interesting.

Kevinbear,
I don't hunt. I am trying different bullets in the 160 range that will knock over the rams and group well in my rifle. Again thanks for letting us know about 7mms that Brunos had in stock.

kevinbear I'm strictly a bow hunter but have some of the Barnes X bullets. They are the older ones without the plastic tip, How do the perform on deer? Have you tried them?

I've never had any rifles that would group well with them although lots of folks say they have rifles that do, I shoot 53 grainers in my hornet at turkeys in the fall with good success but at reduced velocities {1800fps}.Another Dang 9 wrote:kevinbear I'm strictly a bow hunter but have some of the Barnes X bullets. Kevinbear,
Did you need some Nosler E-Tips? I might have a few (5 to 10) 140gr.

Re: Nosler's Accubond in 7mm-08
I think the shtf happened. Many places near are no longer doing back orders or waiting lists. It is simply first come first serve and what comes in is what you get. I guess a sign of the times. I was buying what I could and see if what will work. Also seeing what other members were using on the line and in practice.
