Do any of you shoot both hunter and standard at a match?

Post by Szumi »

I was just thinking about how far I drive to go to a match and how to stretch my fun. I was thinking maybe I could pick up a standard rifle and also continue to shoot my hunter class rifle and double my shooting. Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks,

Szumi

You haven't been shooting your hunter rifle in Standard Class when you go to a match? You don't need a separate Standard rifle to shoot Standard your Hunter rifle will do fine. Most people shoot just the Hunter all the time.

Trespassers will be shot.
Survivors will be shot again!

Yes, it is normal at our matches that almost everyone shoots both. And usually with the same gun.
I buy all my guns from t-rex. He's a small arms dealer.

I shot only standard for many years. When working on hunter scores I shot my hunter gun in both classes to get in more shooting. Unlike a lot of shooters, I do find the extra weight and lighter trigger an advantage and find shooting 2 guns confusing (different holds, trigger, sight settings) so while working toward master in Standard I'm only shooting one gun this year

I didn't consider entering in both classes with my hunter rifle. That would work.

Those that do that, do you sign up for the same starting critter for each class?

Thanks,

I shoot both with 1 rifle have been for years with no regrets. Most matches you will start the 2nd match on the animal you left off on .... I quit shooting 3 diffrent rifles because it was just too hard flying with all that stuff...3 types of ammo and then keeping track of 3 diffrent zero settings for all the rifles......Back in the day Open, Standard and Hunter. So much simpler now...

I shoot both classes with my hunter rifle like many other individuals. That way I only spend money on a single rifle.

I have on occasion with same rifle. Our Thursday eves are NRA approved with 40 rounds. One week I shoot Hunter and the next Std.

Our once a month Saturday Tournaments, shooting 160 rounds can be tiring and depends on how I feel.

Here in Western North Carolina - we shoot Smallbore Silhouette Rifle Match first, then the Hunter Rifle Match after a short lunch break.
Doing it that way allows the "bring what you got" folks to shoot in the Heavy/more open class and have the potential for winning some of the awards.
They are welcome to shoot in the afternoon match as well and if it's just the "regulars" and the new folks, they will be allowed to win in the afternoon as well.
