Picking names

Post by Innocent »

On May 5th of this year I had to put down my faithful GS bitch. Zsa-Zsa was almost fourteen and endured some late life breast cancer. So as a birthday present I am receiving another young black and tan GS who will be eight weeks tomorrow. Traditionally my schnauzers have been named after German admirals, my beagles after English admirals, my chickens after British Royalty. This will be my first repeat in a large dog breed (have had mastiff and giant schnauzer).
So the question is what to name the new young lady?
Suggestions folks???

Wouldn't be much help there... I've had 3 dogs I called "dog", 2 cats I called "cat" and one man child I call "boy"...

I like things simple...

So sorry to hear about Zsa-zsa. I think your GS's should all be Gabors so Eva and Magda are Zsa-zsa's sisters. Personally I like Magda.

Mary... having owned (or been owned by...) only one GS... ( mostly Dobies and Rotties since then...) and having gone through enumerable germanic names (generally requiring you to expectorate somewhere in the pronunciation) I've settled on more soft, flowing, hispanic names more suitable to the locale. My GS dog was "Niebla Luna Azul", or Misty Blue Moon. She liked "Misty". And not much else.. Most anti-social bitch since Jane Fonda. Frau Blucher DOES have a nice ring to it, tho'...

Well, she was born in Tavares, and researching the name Tavares I find it is Portuguese for son of a hermit. So far Lady Magda of Tavares seems to be winning...Maggie! as Magda Gabor's first husband was Portuguese.

GSD's really get in your blood, don't they? Maggie is perfect! It's short and easy to say, and it has the hard sound that is easily distinguished by the dog, so it's great for training. Congratulations on your new BFF, Mary.
