Leupold Target Dot vs Leupold "Floating" Dot
I'm considering sending my 8.5 X 25 scope back to Leupold for a replacement "dot."...the question is which one? Does anyone have any experience with either/both of these reticules and a preference? I understand about the dot size (1/2 min vs 3/8 min) being a personal choice...but I'm wondering if the "floating" dot is too busy looking? Any comments, opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance...Phalanx429

My dot floats and dances around, and didn't cost a bit extra. If you look too close, you would swear you where in the twilight zone. That may be extra.

probably the best way to get your answer on the target vs the floating dot is to look at the Leupold site. If that doesn't work -- I believe the floating dot is what it says it looks like a dot just floating around in you scope. Meaning that you can not see what is holding the dot in place-- just a dot. With the target dot you can see the wires or cross hairs holding the dot.

On mine the damn dot never stops moving. I'm guessing it is operator error.

Hahaha....thank you guys for the bailing wire insight!!! No offense...but I decided to call Leupold and get the straight answer...gonna send it back and have the Leupold Dot (tapered crosshair/1/2 moa dot) installed. CUSTSVC mentioned that that reticule (Code #0060) is "by far and away" the most requested by SB Silly shooters. Cost for the change is $69.99....also...they will fix/readjust/make-me-happy with the turret adjustments that work "first time/every time" by the correct amount advertised - NO CHARGE for that....3 to 4 week turn around. So back it goes....I will report back with how it all works out...target scores not-withstanding! Thanks again - Phalanx429 out.

Little late to the show here, but I have one scope with just a dot, and the leupold with the tapering crosshairs to a dot. I like the crosshairs better, good choice. There are times when my spotter calls to hold it off the rear leg (or whatever) and it is easier to tell where the dot is having the crosshair extending down to a leg (or a hole, or a spot etc). I think you will be happy with the new reticle.

Most of time I don't even bother mounting a Leupold scope on a gun until I send it back to them for a 1/2 minute cpc dot, I sold one to a local guy a few weeks ago, after uses it a while he'll be cussing me, hope he doesn't have to many to switch the reticles on!
