Shooters, Be sure to watch Shooting USA tonight on the Outdoor Channel. They are doing a nice piece on The Ridgway Rifle Club. Featured is the new Varmit Benchrest match and also Cowboy Silhouette. Any of you who go to Nationals will recognize some of the faces of the participants.

Thanks Al, good to see a little promotion of the sport. And interesting to see the new 1000 meter version. I was out to PA this summer, but didn't get to go up to Ridgeway. Maybe I'll use that as an excuse to go back.

Now don't get me wrong as I may be biased, but anyone who shoots silhouette and doesn't at least make one trip to Ridgway Rifle Club is missing out on a real good shooting experience. They run a first class match and always have some extras added in to benefit the competitors.
I live about 135 miles east of there and it's not my home club, but I have been a member of RRC for many years. I'm proud to have won many team events at Nationals, State and Regional matches as a team member of the Ridgway LeverGunners.

I consider RRC as my home club.Although its a 60mile trip oneway its still my backyard.It has it all,and well done.I've taken many shooting types to this range with the offer,"just get in the car and lets go".I let them shoot SB,HP,and lever silhouette.Its somewhat of a joke to me as i always start at the SB range,all are impressed.
Then we drive over to the 200yd and lever range,same effect.Its when you cruise up to the HP 1000yd range that the look on most new faces is priceless.With the usual "I never new such a place exsisted so close to home."I bring these new shooters to this range as my guest(permitted and encouraged by this club),during the week.So they can shoot at leasure and not interfere or be overwhelmed by a match.There are always other members there to encourage new folks.
Another post about the decline of silhouette has some bearing on the above.
I believe that each of us has the responsibility to try and recruit new shooters by offering a free ride to the range and the use of some ammo and our rifles.
I understand that most of us did not get this same opportunity when we started.But so what.Its a good feeling to promote this sport.Maybe 1 in 10 will ever attempt this game,but i tried.
