Savage Anschutz Magazines/Follower

Post by BruceH »

I just picked up a Savage Anschutz Model 54 and need to find some quality five round magazines for it - real quick. I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction and also help me not buy any junk if it is out there. I need to order them ASAP and have not located them at my standard online businesses. I have one w/ the plastic follower and one with the metal follower, but a leg is broke on the metal one and I would like to also find a source for the follower (plastic or metal). Thanks in advance.

Try Brownells. I bought several Savage magazines for my 1712 and they work fine.

This has been discussed before. Do a quick search and you will probably find out what you want quickly.

Thanks guys. I did research and see where the Savage magazines are being used. I just did not know how much modification is needed, if any. I was hoping to find a source for OEM magazines, but time is running out.

How about a source for the follower?

For $59 euro optic has them in stock.

JG has them for 62.71

Google 'magazine for anschutz rifle' and follow some links, might find them cheaper, these were just the first two I followed.

Edit: oh yeah, the savage mags are better, they have a steel follower where the anschutz ones have plastic. The modification for the savages is just a little filing on the back. If you are ever at a match look for Loren Peters, he usually has some on hand that he has done the filing on and he sells them reasonably priced (I think he's out of WA state)

The Brownell's magazines fit my 1712 perfectly without any mods. I like the price a lot better than the OEM Anschutz magazines.

Just ordered four of the Brownell's magazines. Now I need a follower to replace the broke one.

I'm not sure they sell those. I'd just hold on to the magazine for other spare parts....

Bruce,
FWIW, I bought the follower only from Neil Steppe in Texas. A great gentleman who shipped it to me and said to send him a check. Cannot remember his business name but he is known to many so probably someone will step up and give you contact info. It was a telephone transaction. I am travelling so cannot look his address up at home.
Good luck,
John

Neal's contact information is on the link provided. Anschutz factory service is poor, Neal has 1000% more knowledge and is a gentleman.

Thanks for the information. I received the four from Brownells and did have to file a little off of the back. They work great. I will contact Neil. Thanks again.

Bruce I'm not sure if you're going to be at the Connard, but if so ask somebody to point you in Pete's direction and he'll set you up with some extras. I have 8 of his mags and they are fantastic. He modifies the savage so that it fits as good if not better in an Anny especially if you're using an after market stock (like the Wooster which is deeper than a factory stock).
