Hardscrabble Vest
A friend of mine has repeatedly informed me that I need to upgrade my current shotgun vest. The question I have for the collective is which Hardscrabble vest is the most popular/ most suited for silhouette?

They have a bunch-o-vests. you pick from leathers and colors and other stuff based. Some off the shelf designs are available and you can have them placed on your vest and I even bet you can have another shop make one of your own design and have him put it on your vest for you, or even ask him to make it for you. I preferred the plain recoil pad but have seen others with the thicker pads with what I call a "wing".
call them on the phone. he and the family are very very helpful and make an excellent product that appears to be designed with silhouette rules in mind.
I got the full leather vest for support in both high power and small bore. I chose the two pockets to carry clips, spent brass, and small tools that I might need on the line and pen loops for pens or small utensils. the vest will last a lifetime as far as I am concerned. And, they look good. I did not find anything better to my liking on the internet
Drawback to mine is that it is heavy and hot in the hard summer time, but, you only wear it for a few minutes so it is not so bad. I use in july and august. some other folks switch to a vest with net on it during the hotter months. but, you don't have to get full leather, there are other options.

I went with a shotgun vest from Cabelas. The one with the long leather pad - from shoulder to waist. Might not be the best, but it improved my scores - so it'll stay until for a while. Love the pockets and it cost a lot less than the Hardscrabble vests. Has a mesh back, but might get hot when the temp goes up.
If you get one -know that Cabelas products are "full size" - an XL is really "XL" - not just a slightly larger "Large".

I guess my question is which Hardscrabble vest is endorsed or preferred by Steel Chicken's membership? The top grain leather versus the suede with white top grain leather versus the complete suede leather vest.

I ordered my vest from Chris last year at the nationals. I went with the top grain leather and love it.
