Rodolfo Rizo

With a heavy heart I will tell you that my good friend Rodolfo Rizo passed away a couple of days ago. He had not been doing well health wise for the last five years of his life.
I met Rodolfo Rizo at my first NRA rifle silhouette nationals in 1978 and we became good friends almost instantly. I was invited to go hunting with him in Mexico the following year and I took him up on the offer. We hunted ducks in a place near Mexico City and deer/Javalinas in the state of Chihuahua. After that I couched/spotted for him for several years when he would come to the US to participate in either state or national championships. Chuey Galban and Ralph Corral also became good friends with Rodolfo and his family and many time they would stay at one or the other home when visiting. Rodolfo was in his prime in those years and in 1981 he set a new NRA HP record at Avenal, CA 34X40 with a borrowed rifle from Chuey Galban that Chuey later gave to him. During those trips to the NRA nationals he won several national titles and more than his share of trophies. Some of you guys would remember him driving his VW forest green buss that he keep going for a long time replacing the engine every so many 100's of thousands of miles. He was always accompanied to these trips by his lovely wife Silvia and some times by Alejandra and Antonio his children and great shooters also. I saw Rodolfo in 2002 for the last time at Raton, NM. For one reason or another that was their last trip to the NRA nationals. He will be missed, may he rest in peace.

I never met the man, but from the write up I can tell we all are a little less for not having known him.
It seems the Silhouette community/family draws genuinely GOOD people.

Sorry to hear of his passing, I seem to recall meeting him in Raton 02 or maybe Phoenix 01... Losing a shooting buddy is particularly hard to take.
