Actually he is very honest ( esp for a lawyer) about his misses. He rarely blames Jerry. as a spotter Dustin is outstanding.

With all the 40's he's shot, I wonder if his mentality has changed.

My shooting mentality has changed a lot by design. I think that mentality (and mental focus) should evolve as a shooter improves. I also think that the mental aspect of shooting is BY FAR the most important aspect of shooting - MUCH more important than the things that most people obsess over like stance or equipment.

I expect to clean the short line and when I don't I am disappointed, I wonder if he EXPECTS to shoot a 40 every time out and is not bothered on the last few animals. When he was clean going into turkeys at the state match, I couldn't see a change in his demeanor, I wonder if that was reflected inside. I know Elisabeth's mental makeup changes when she's clean into her last animal. She's much more relaxed having missed one. I've seen her miss the first animal and run 39 straight many times.

I don't expect to shoot a perfect score. I don't really think about the score; that's not how it works with me. I think about individual shots and the process of executing the correct shot on the individual target that I'm shooting. I expect to execute the process of making each individual shot the same and (with the scoped rifles) breaking the shot on the spot that the spotter calls.

The last 5 shots of a perfect score are always difficult.

I would think he believes he should always shoot a 40 score. I suspect those time that he doesn't he blames it on the light or wind.

I have the best spotter in the world - seriously. Other than the Texas Air Rifle Championships (which the wind was absurd), I missed maybe 5 shots last year due to wind or light. Jerry is so good that he basically takes the conditions out of the equation - I certainly don't ever think about any condition when Jerry's spotting. Joe DuBoulay and Daniel Archibald (Dee) are also excellent and one of those three is always spotting for me.
