2008 Hassayampa Memorial Matches

Post by NewAZShooter »

Don't forget about the Hassayampa Rod and Gun Club's 21st Annual Highpower and Smallbore Memorial Rifle Silhouette matches coming up at Ben Avery Shooting Facility.

To any and all who can make it to the Phoenix area this weekend, what follows is some info about this weekend's rifle silhouette matches taken from the local club mailer. The range is open for practice before the matches at around 0730-0800.

Saturday, March 1st 2008, Start Time 0900.

Entry fees are $20 first rifle, $7.00 second rifle. This will be two, 40-shot matches with awards given for the 80-shot aggregate. Proceeds will go to a youth organization. No advance registration is required.

Sunday, March 2nd 2008, Start Time 0900.
21st Annual Hassayampa Memorial Highpower Rifle Silhouette Match

Entry fees are $18 first rifle, $7.00 second rifle. This is a 40-shot match. Proceeds will go to a youth organization. No advance registration is required.

Come on out for a great weekend of fun, competitive shooting! The weather should be awesome, with a current forecast of sunny with a high of 77 on Saturday and partly cloudy with a high of 68 on Sunday.

Personally, this will be my last match for a few months since I am getting called out of state on business. So it's your last chance to whomp all over me at the range for awhile and show off your superior shooting skills, perfect hold, flawless trigger breaks, and maybe even your perfect wind doping skills, particularly on Sunday's Highpower match. Get in your shots while you can. See you there.

2008 Hassayampa Memorial Match - Results

Post by NewAZShooter »

What a weekend! We had a great shoot at BASF for the memorial smallbore silhouette match. In case anyone's interested, I posted snapshots of the scoreboards showing both 40-shot match results and the overall aggregate scores here...

Congrats to Steve E. (Sobrbiker) for turning in a great perfomance and winning 1st in his class in both B-hunter and A standard. And congrats to all of our winners. Our overall Match Winner was Jim Rose with a great 68/80 aggregate score.

It was a beautiful day for shooting, 70's and light wind, and I'd say a good time was had by all.

Today's memorial Highpower match was tricky. The wind meter showed a high of 22.5 mph. Gusty, swirling winds persisted all day on the HP range. Unpredictable and very challenging highpower shooting, as it always is. No photos from this one, as my photographer Melanie stayed home in bed. The wind flags set out at the different animal lines were often blowing in 3 or 4 different directions and standing straight out off the posts. Good clean fun indeed.

I should have stayed home in bed for the HP Sunday

Thanks for the compliments John, I owe it all to my spotter
-not to mention EMcD, who did an outstanding job on my rifle. It may be a bit much for an A (soon to be AA) class shooter, but I damned sure won't be needing a new/better rifle for A LOOONNNNGGGGG time!

I know that my scores don't impress the big guns out there, but I'm having fun and consistently moving up-can't ask for more!!
Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!

Thanks, I got 2 scores into AA in standard, just started in hunter after playing in the B zone with the CZ last year.

Did you work on Jim Jr's or Jim Sr's rifles? Jim Jr got the match, and Sr took AA with a nice 50/80 aggregate.

Let's not forget to congratulate NewAZShooter for tieing for second in AA Hunter and missing placing in AA Std with two 46/80 aggregates (22/40,22/40,24/40,24/40) how's that for consistent????
Did I mention that was my old CZ I couldn't shoot outta B with???

Steve, did not know there were two of them. I will assume it was probably Jim Sr. Pharr stock black with green granite, and a Lilja barrel.

I may be wrong but I believe Marvin Pearson (metalhead) put together Jim Rose Jr. rifles.

Jim has shot silhouettes for only a few years, has made rapid progress and in my opinion is already part of the ones to watch closely at this year.

Congratulations Jim and keep up the good work. Tony Tello

The Jim Rose Sr. is me. I am very happy with your work, the rifle shoots great. If I gave it to Jim Jr, I'm sure he would have done the same. (makes Papa proud) 8)

LR-I thought it was either Marv or Mark on JimJr's guns, but I wasn't sure of xpilot's, I was pretty sure Sr's was a EMcD rifle, cause he got it quickly

Your right, JimJr's an excellent shooter (and a mighty nice guy-as is his pop), JimSr's usually no slouch either.
