lyman front sight, williams rear?????
hi folks,
well got the sights on my marlin 39a, and went to the range., got sighted in at 25yds, and my williams rear sight was half way up the
the target knob. then i put my chicken target out to around 40yds, came up a few clicks, and i was right on the chicken. put my pig target out to 50yds , and ran out of clicks, and the rear sight would lift out of rear sight.
what do i have to do? longer target knob? higher or lower front sight?
need some help
. thanks...dan222

A lower front sight would fix the problem... as well as a taller screw and rear sight assembly. Before you just try to fix one or the other so you can get sighted in, consider where your face will be on the stock when you're sighted in and shooting offhand. With a Marlin 39's fairly low buttstock, I usually like to use the shortest Lyman 17a front sight, which when sighted in will let me have the rear sight low enough to have a better cheek weld on the stock when shooting offhand. Either shortening the front or raising the rear will fix your current problem. Choose the one that lets you shoot best after the problem is fixed.

lyman sight
hi steel shooters,
i purchased thru brownells a lyman 17ami-.494, i now see that that sight might be to high. i might need a lower sight like the .404, but i think if i have to lower the sight to rasie elevation i might be all right? or i could put a shorter post in front sight? thanks....dan

I'm not sure putting a shorter post insert in the front sight would be a good idea, or if one would even be available. I like the "circle in a circle" of the sight combination with the point of aim being the center of the circles. I think it would probably be cheaper and easier overall to just get the .404" high sight and use it with your current rear sight.
