Out for more practice
Went out to CRC again today. My company was kind enough to give all the employees another FU day (furlough, unpaid.....FU..actual pay code on our timecards.) Well, FU right back at ya! And not the paycode FU. What better way to spend a normal work day than at the range? We got ten of them spread out over the year. This was my fourth, all spent at CRC. You know where I will be for the next six? Shooting of course.
This time I brought out four 7-08's (what else).....the three rebarrels I did and a factory M700 Classic. I put 40 rounds out of each rifle and plenty went harmlessly into the dirt. Before any shooting was done I had to deal with a 30 inch prarie rattler parked on my favorite concrete pad. I showed him my range officer badge. He did not challenge my authority and was hissing and rattling at me all the way to the weeds. You have to watch every step you take out here in the summertime, lots of mice for a food source.
It was a warm, wind free day, perfect for offhand shooting. Another thing I did was to test out some other colors for our targets. My plan is to have some set up at our state match in Sept. A 'bounty' of $1.00 will be put on the last animal (#10) in the string. I stashed a little money away from some previous matches to pay out to the shooters. That animal will be painted with an obnoxious flourescent color. Hopefully this will make the shooter want to bear down and hit the damn thing and earn some of his entry fee back. Any one that actually hits all 16 in the two day event will get some sort of special prize yet to be determined.
We are a dying breed here in CO with fewer than a dozen regular HP shooters showing up for matches. Might as well have a little fun while supplies last.......shooters that is. Fun is what it's all about, right?
Jerry....add nasty snakes to your CRC list.

I like the colors !!! silhouette is a fun game and with incentive targets its all good.....I think there is another meaning in the FU code if you know what I mean....but the jokes on them....Anyways if I was retired you could count me in to your shooting group..I like it out there.

259....snakes are cool. Some are very friendly and others are tasty....but then some make Don shoot holes in the wall...he didn't want to shoot holes in the top of the dresser. Guess I'm going to have to clean that baby for dinner when I get there.

If I wasn't so scared of thoes rattlers, I would have painted them. Bright pink or orange would be nice.

Snakes are wonderful creatures, they make great hatbands and grilled to medium rare with hot peppers on a shishka- bob, um-um good!
Bob, you and I need to have a serious talk about giving deadly posionous reptiles "the pass" on the range we frequent.

Kevin....if I had known you wanted a hat band or better yet were going to cook us up some grub, I would have tried a head shot with the Model 70.

Love snakes....My old pet Python lived to be 27 years old and was almost 20 feet when he died at 180 pounds he was a great pet...But an illness in the end forced the issue and I had to put him down..

I picked up the award plaques for our match today. One or both of these beauties could be yours. But like the lottery...."you cant win if you dont play".
