Ruger 77/22

[Another Dang 9]

I have a question about the Ruger 77/22. I see alot of people buying CZ and other lower priced .22s but never any mention of the Ruger. Does anyone use one? Here in the N.E. area they show up but not anywere else.

In my limited experience with Ruger 77/22 rifles, they seem to fit Ruger's usual method of making very reliable, althought not very accurate, rifles. They also seemed to share the CZ 452's lack of a good trigger. There are probably exceptions to this rule, of course. I'm sure a 77/22 would make a good rifle to get started into the sport, but I don't think I'd buy one specifically for silhouette.

I have one and use it for both hunting rabbits, squirrels and I also use it to compete in hunter class silhouette. The only modifications I have done is free float the barrel and put in a rifle basix trigger adjusting it to 2lbs. This rifle has been very reliable and I have had no issues with it. It loves Eley Club and will out shoot me every day of the week. I know it is not the best rifle but it does great for me and it has gotten me to A Class with no issues and being able to use a rifle that I hunt with and that was already in the safe. More money for gas, ammo and practice as most mistakes that I make are operator error!

By all means, jump in and see how it does! To quote Kitty "we play follow the leader a lot because experimentation is expensive." Take my word for it...

If it will reliably shoot to 1 moa out to 100 meters, then it is definitely good enough to play.

The three 77/22 that I have known directly have all had mods...ie free float the barrel, trigger work etc. and still require high end ammo ie Tenex to hold a tight group. I know of one that over $1500 was spent on mods and it still only shot well with Tenex, very sturdy rifle though.
