CZ 452 trigger upgrade

What is the best trigger upgrade for a CZ? I had an Eric Brooks that was nice when it was all done- the YoDave looks like a simular upgrade. Would a Timeny be better? Or something else that works that I am not aware of?

brownells has an adjustable sear, made by automation souloutions, i installed it, i have 0 creep and a nice weight. best investment i have made in the sport thus far. a bit pricy but less so than a timney.



the same "fix as a brooks kit can be done for free with a bit of aluminum foil. directions are on the web someplace

I have a Timney trigger I am going to put in as soon as my gun gets here Tuesday. I have read here and else where of problems people have with the CZ 452 Timney trigger. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I won't have any.

We've installed an AS adjustable sear trigger from Brownells on our CZ452 classic 'American'.

I didn't think it was expensive for what it offers and delivers.

A lovely crisp release, breaking lighter than the original creepy CZ offering,
and of course weight of pull adjustable with the rear trigger spring as usual.

I guess I've tried most variations of improving the CZ trigger and in my experience, for the "best" (read consistent in the release) trigger I would rate my experiences as:

1. AS sear. No noticeable variation to the trigger pull ever. Bank vault reliable.
2. Timney. When properly adjusted, mine seemed very consistent. The biggest issue is some users don't fully understand the dynamics of operation and fail to accomodate the trigger assembly with the space required. Remove enough stock material behind the trigger. I've read on RFC where there have been some function issues, but not in my experience.

DIP is selling a sear for the CZ 452 line. I have one installed, but I will never get the chance to wring it out because most of my silhouette work is with a 1712 or 40-X.

I've installed the Timney/CZ triggers and, while they are excellent in terms of providing a crisp, reliable pull, some of them have a problem:

The length of the catch link is short. This allows the bolt to move slightly too far to the rear and the striker nose will move far enough out of the action mortise that it will bind -- in some installations more than others.

I discussed this with the Timney people on the phone and at SHOT and sent them digital photos of the problem. Whether it's completely corrected I can't say.

With that understanding, IMO Timneys are pretty bulletproof...

I can't repeat this enough - TEST YOUR TRIGGER MODS!

Be sure you pull the trigger with the safety on, release trigger, then flip the safety to fire. If the firing pin falls, you don't have enough sear engagement.

I put a Timney trigger in my 452 varmint tonight. It went in easy. Removing enough wood from the trigger area was kind of slow. Remove some check, remove some more, then check again. I take my time on things like this so it was about an hour and a half start to finish.

I ordered mine 2 pounds. I don't have my trigger weights here, but it feels about right. Will have to check actual weight later. I tried safety function a bunch of times everything is working properly. Nice and crisp with no creep compared to the CZ trigger.

I am thinking a trigger shoe would make it feel even better. May have to look for one.

I've done 3 or 4 with Brookies kits and an AS sear from Brownells and the AS sear is great as others have noted above. I have a number of Anschutz and two Ruger 1022 with KIDD triggers and they are better than any CZ trigger I've ever tried but with the AS installed you will have a very nice trigger. Please note it is a BEAR to install - at least for me it was. I felt like I needed two extra hands to do it right, at one point you need to align the sear pin hole and retain a small metal ball and - for me - it was like balancing three eggs one on top of the other. As others have noted there is a lot of information to be gotten over on Rimfire Central re CZs.

Timney is a favorite, particularly in 452's because their factory trigger is such a pain to work with. The cartridge drop in solution of the Timney is a really nice alternative to needing extra hands.

The lowest factory setting I was able to get on my new 452, left hand, American is 2.7 lbs per gunsmith @$45.00 charge. This will do just fine for now and might consider the yodave #4 spring that would get me closer to 2lbs which a club member would have to do for me.

Quick question, is the timney any heavier? As in weight of parts, not pull.

Yes, the timney is the heaviest. But it won't put you over the hunter class weight limit.
