preffered scope mount?
What do you hard-core rimfire steel shooters use to mount your scopes? Rings that clamp onto receiver dovetails, or blocks tapped into the receiver? Then which type or rings? Redfield twist-in types, weaver cross bar types, or simple clamp-ons.
I'd like to set up my S-A 54 sporter (which is drilled and tapped) with a Weaver 24x42 (44?). rings that clamp onto the 11mm dovetail offer the most adjustment for ring placement (perfect eye relief placement). Twist-in locks screwed to the receiver will never loosen or move.

As of recent I swapped my pair BKLs for 1inch high stainless Ringworks rings.

Ditto. Heavier, but no lapping plus the option of using offset rings.jbolt wrote:Burris Signature Zee rings

+1. I also have a set of CZ rings, which are heavier still, but solid and a good height. The Burris system is excellent though, the nylon inserts are very effective. No experience with BKL, but they look great and the price is excellent.BCloninger wrote:Ditto. Heavier, but no lapping plus the option of using offset rings.jbolt wrote:Burris Signature Zee rings
CZ rifles, which have a dovetail mount.

I'm not nearly as experienced as the others but I am another BKL ring user. Lightweight, solid, well made and inexpensive.

Thanks for all the replies! I am a twist-in Burris and Leupold fan, and use them with tapped blocks on my centerfire bolt-actions hunting rifles.
It sounds like most of you are using rings that clamp to the dovetails on your 22s. The BKL rings are priced right, I'll probably try them.
Peace, and Merry Christmas to All,
Jeff

I use aluminium B-square extra high air gun rings. They clamp directtly to the dovetail. The weight, height and price was right for me. I kinda lucked into them as I was looking for a ring that was higher than the rest. At the time, this was it.

Re: preffered scope mount?
I recently purchased Sightrons 1 inch dia SIL scope, which my existing silver BKL 30mm will not work.
I went to BKL's site and they don't have the 257H in Silver, only black. I filed a complaint and ordered the black. Now I have to think what color I want to paint the new ordered rings. Yellow would surely stand out in the range rack. Now I am thinking maybe light blue being more subtle.
In my bag, I found old Leupold Rifleman #57323, 1" tall for 1 inch dia tube[BLACK] and has been working for the past +week indoors. I recall using these rings 3 years ago starting out and never had an issue when on my 39a for 2 years. I guess I like the design sturdiness of the BKL and true alignment design? Equal pinching pressure on dovetail.
I have 4 days to decide what color to paint the new BKL rings. PINK, maybe?

Re: preffered scope mount?
Why not just strip the black off of the BKLs that you have coming, and polish them up if you want them shiny.

Re: preffered scope mount?
Jason, I think that is anodized black and would be impregnated into the metal. Much easier to just paint them and add character to my rifle.

Re: preffered scope mount?
The black comes off pretty easy in in the bead blast cabinent....should be easy to polish. I always bead blast the coating off before powder coating.
