Help Me Spend Some Money!!!

I will be teaching a Concealed Weapons class on Sunday to about 25 or 30 folks.... I like using what I make to support my gun habit. I would like to get another rimfire rifle. My budget will be up to $900 for a rifle, not including scope or rings. What should I consider? What should I buy? Prefer something that will be a great hunter class rifle. Something with nice wood, great trigger, and outstanding accuracy. Nothing is off the table....... Thought this would make an interesting post and I will keep all updated with what I have purchased and post photos. Som, as the title sez, help me spend my money!!!

With a $900 max budget for rifle only and those requirements, I would probably go with a Weatherby Mark XXII which is a dressed-up Anschutz 64.

I have to agree with Jason and Trent. I have A weatherby that I use for hunter and standard class and the gun holds and shoots very well (got me to AAA first year shooting it. Thhe only thing about them is they only like the good ammo. I shoot SK-Standard Plus and it shoots great. Not sure where you are located but I do know that Grice gun shop in Clearfield PA has some. Rite around $700.

Looks like a great rifle. I will look into it.

But, if not a new gun, what would you look at? I am a believer in buying very nice, pre-owned guns that may actually appreciate in value as well as give me many years of shooting pleasure.

Sell some guns and buy an Anshutz 54. No matter what they say on here about the CZ or Weatherby or whatever, you'll never go wrong and you'll never sell it. Standard or Hunter class its the same action but different triggers and bbl weight. While your at it, teach some more people, make some more money and buy a Luepold scope with target knobs and parrallax adjustment. Send scope out for a 1/2m to 5/8m dot. Case closed. If u don't make AAA its your fault, LOL!! If u happen to find a used Walther Silo, pick that one up for about 1/2 the price of a Anschutz. You won't be disappointed in it either. Otherwise, your on your own. Unless your a natural and can shoot anything, quality makes a difference and that takes money.

In my opinion it wouldn't make sense to buy a gun (54.18) just for Standard class. More and more shooters are going to one gun for both classes. The scores at the Nationals prove it, very little difference at the top with the best shooters. Plus why double your expenses, You can't go wrong with a Anschutz 1712. Probably a little more than you want to spend but Jason's suggestions are a good bet.

Funny you should mention Walther. I am looking at one now that has a LH stock w/RH bolt. Since I shoot LH it intrigues me. Not sure of the exact model number, but it is a single shot, nice wood, appears to be in decent shape, but does have a couple of not so nice condition flaws, which I can overlook. Asking price is less than half what an Annie 54 is going for. Matter of fact, IF seller accepts my offer, I will only be about $250-300 over my orginal budget with a Leupold or Sightron Scope.

What are the specific models that I should look for?

You can't do that anymore Luepold will void the warrenty. Used to be you could have a Premier recticle installed and they would still cover it. If you buy the scope from ChickenGeorge on this site he can get a big dot in it with some arragement he has with Leupold. I went through him and was very staified.

I said Leupold scope because they are not on every corner. Nice Rifles can be found in shops and gun shows. But you have the scope.

Tell the truth ruling out custom rifles, modern manufacture, nothing comes close to a 1712 for appearance and performance. I have a nice old Oregon Kimber 82 that's a beautiful gun, nice trigger too but it won't shoot with Anschutz. Same with the Coopers. If there is something else in that class I don't know about it.

Go classic American Bolt there are Remington 37's and 40x's Winchester 52's with the 52 sporter the top of the line. Another real classic American Bolt Rim-fire is the Springfield 1922 M II, perhaps the best of all pre WW II rimfire rifles

Really want a nice rifle look at American Single Shots like Winchester Low Walls, Stevens 44 1/2's or Ballards. Good Original example of any single shot will cost double what a 1712 will though. And with the single shot you have to start looking for Unertl's Lyman STS's and Feckers to scope the gun.

One mans opinion only, Shooting go Anschutz, Nice shooting gun pride of ownership appreciate in value, American single shot.

Pete I just sent A scope to Leupold and they installed A 1/2 min dot. Only cost $60 and had it back in 2 weeks.

Let's not worry about the glass, I will get the best that I can...... What about the rifle? New or used, $900 budget....... What about the Walther I mentioned above? Sounds like a nice rifle with the accuracy. Maybe a Brno? Sako? Finnfire? Sort of leaning towards a Walther........ My senses tell me that they may be a lot of bang for the buck spent.........

From what I have heard, Leupold is reversing their decision on the warranty with Premier reticules. They will now stand behind their product regardless of whether or not it has a Premier reticule in it.

Although, I think that ppkny was referring to sending the scope to Leupold for the reticule change since Premier isn't doing that anymore.
