Advice...?

Looking to upgrade my sons silho rifle, he curretly shoots a CZ452 american..A/AA class, at competition he will be shooting against STD class rifles...our thoughts are going with a better fit (custom stock) little more weight and better trigger.
1-What do you guys/gals think about going with the Anshutz 1416 HB 2 stage trigger and custom stock? 64 action good/bad???

2-Get another 452 and set it up?
Would do his 452 that way, trigger work?... but need a gun for CMP also.

3-The 1712 ? Affordability? worth It?

4- Other ideas?

I'd say get a 1712 or stick with the rifle he has now. If he is A or AA class, he can't currently outshoot a CZ452. The only reason I'd say to get a 1712 is that he will never be able to outshoot that rifle, so there will never be a need to upgrade.

One of our Master shooters still shoots a CZ 452 and does fine with it. She has a laminate stock that is heavier than the factory stock and her trigger has been modified to right at 2lbs. If you need a better trigger, there are trigger options (I have a CZ with a nice Timney trigger in the safe). There are also lots of stock options.

You don't mention his age, which can be a factor in determining whether to go with a custom stock at this point. The 452 action is great. The 1712 is touted as the best but with all due respect I shoot my WIn 52 better than my 1712,and I have recently shot some of my best scores in years with a borrowed Stiller action. So it is more a matter of fit, and what he is comfortable with. As for what he needs, evaluate what he intends to do with it, and maybe you need better glass for him? What scope is on top?

More info...my son is 16 years old, competes in State matches..Silhouette, CMP, NRA 3P...gearing up for National match next June.
Scope he currently shoots is Sightron 6-24x42 Bigsky Silho on the 452 American

Another option is the 1710HB great rifle, great weight, just a bit of a problem making weight but you can.

Having shot NRA 3 and 4P and silhouette, they are the same action but entirely different stock configuration if you shoot both standard and hunter gun silhouette.
At the age of 16, I would say that you can tell whether he will stick with the game for some time, thus spending the money on either a good hunter rifle, or getting a modified stock for the 452 is worth the effort. I will lay odds that he will continue to shoot silhouette well into older age, as the body tends to start objecting to the kneeling position as we get older.
As for an Annie vs. 452, both are good actions, and they can perform well with the right trigger man so go with what fits him. As for glass, remember that it can be moved to any rifle in the future so invest in the good mechanics and repeatability of whatever glass suits his eyes.

A lot of it is like Mary said its what fits , what you are comfortable with and have confidence in....I have been shooting the same action for almost 40 years as a prone gun first and since 81 with stock and barrel changes as my silhouette gun....
