Absolutely Last Party Posting and thanks
Well, Jerry and I are now officially RETIRED from hosting any type of match or party at Winnsboro Gun Club. The 24th Southern Nationals Party and Match are now in the book. Jerry and I had a great time just sitting around drinking beer and visiting. The highlights were giving out all our great door prizes on Saturday and everyone in attendance at the Party won 4 door prizes. Several non-competing participants won guns and a lot of outer good stuff. The food prepared for the Cooking contest was outstanding as usual. Some great gumbo, chili, ribs, desserts, tamales and Mixed Drinks. Congrats to all that participated. It was great going out like Jerry and I went in with a perfect 40/40 in Standard Rifle by Elisabeth Steiger. There has never been a more humble and deserving champion as she has donated back many items that she won at our matches to be given away to Junior shooters. Truly and class act and beautiful young lady. She just cannot help who her Dad is!!! The last award we gave out was for the Last Man Standing to Gabby Jones. Gabby has been to each and every one of our matches and parties for 24 years!!
We want to recognize the many great sponsors that have contributed to our success over the years because these companies and individuals helped make us the number one match to attend in the world (according to Anthony and Lynn Finn from Australia).

I want to know how a Texas Team won the gumbo cookoff. To me that is a slap in the face of every Cajun in attendance. And I understand the judges were Cajuns, selected by David and Jerry, so it wasn't rigged. What gives????

Re: Absolutely Last Party Posting and thanks
It was NOT a Texas Team but Carrie Cleaver from Alabama! She put an ass whooping on the Texas Boys! They even had two entries!!
The winning teams are : Gumbo - Team Everybody but Pat Steiger # 1; Chili - Team Carrie Cleavage; Tamales - Team It's Pork, I swear!; Ribs - Team Junior McCocks; Dessert - Team Everybody but Pat Steiger # 2 and Mixed Drinks - Team Junior McCocks
Each winning team came away with a $50 cash prize and a $25 gift box from Every Occasion.
A great time was had by all and the other teams in the cooking categories were A Coonass & 2 Dumbasses in Gumbo, Everybody but Pat Steiger # 1 and # 2, Brokeback Beards, Iraqi Chili Team and Louisiana Bayou Boy in Chili, Everybody but Pat Steiger # 1 Mudd Pies, Yankee Asshole's Best Half and Drunken Cherry Team in Dessert, Mud Pies # 1 and # 2, Hambone Hugh and Crew 1 - 4 in Mixed Drinks.
Great way to end 24 years of hosting matches and parties!

Someone got paid off! How else does the "winning" gumbo have a small pot 1/4 the size of the losers pot that was nearly still full AFTER everyone ate while the losers pot was EMPTY? I didn't even get a second bowl of the losing gumbo because it was all gone!! I tried the winning gumbo and it wasn't bad tasting it just wasn't up to gumbo standards. I was born in New Orleans and grew up in Lafayette so I know gumbo
To those that don't know, anyone that resides north of Ville Platte LA. is only a Cajun by virtue of living in the same state as Cajuns. Once you cross that boundary it's more country than coonass cooking. No true Cajun would have given the RED gumbo the win unless they had been at the beer truck all day and even then it is doubtful.
All the food, drinks and desserts were good though so everyone that made the rounds was sure to be happy, full and tipsy.
Had another great time at the Winnsboro Gun Club and hope it isn't the last as the range is far to nice to not hold at least one big match a year there. Thanks for the good times wish I was shooting silhouette and knew about it years ago. I made it to the last 6 or 7 at least

Re: Absolutely Last Party Posting and thanks
I had absolutely nothing to do with the judges. It is all a matter of taste and the same judges were judging last year and tasted the same two gumbos. Hard to believe that they switched winners this year in a blind tasting. They did NOT get ANY alcohol of any type while judging the food; however, I cannot say that about the mixed drink category!
Just an overall lot of fun for Jerry and I to go out on. I am sure that there will be a large match of some type at Winnsboro Gun Club in the future years. We have the best set up small bore range in the world and if anyone has a better set up, we will be glad to acquiesce.

I don't think Carrie won the gumbo. I don't think she was part of the team. I'm pretty sure the gumbo teams were Jerry and Bruce for the Coonass, and the other team was Motl and Pat's kids. And last time I checked, Monroe was pretty far north but still officially part of Louisiana. So it looks to me like Texas beat up Louisiana for the gumbo bragging rights. I got no dog in the fight, I'm not from either place, I'm just sayin.......

I promise that Carrie won chili. I did not read the results correctly and Texas teams were no in the first two

Re: Absolutely Last Party Posting and thanks
It was a good competition. I was surprised Jerry didn't win.
On a possibly related note, I got a call from a Sergeant of the Louisiana State police today who asked me to come to his office. He said that he had something he'd rather not discuss over the phone. I thought he was going to take back the ridiculous $118 ticket that I got this morning for "illegal window tinting" but that wasn't it. Apparently, there was a guy sitting at the top of the Baton Rouge water tower holding a rifle with a HUGE scope on top. The Sergeant explained that they first thought it was a sniper until it became apparent that he wasn't going to shoot anyone. They were trying to figure out who it was but the only identifying marks were "a series of notes written on that huge scope, but even the best code breakers on the force couldn't make out what it said with the best spotting optics in the world." What was even stranger was that he appeared to be sitting on a very large black pot turned upside down, just staring off into space...
Long story short, after the SWAT team determined that the threat of danger was low considering the perpetrator didnt have a high powered rifle but rather "a big, black .22 rifle that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 50 years" the police called in the suicide negotiators and tried to make contact. After almost an hour of incoherent gibberish from the obviously distraught fellow, an officer finally made out something that was being mumbled. He said "ask Justin, he'll tell you which pot was gone and which pot was three quarters full. He used V8 juice!!!" When asked who Justin was, the possibly homeless man replied in a yell, "HE'S THE MATCH DIRECTOR!" The negotiator sent an officer to find Justin and continued to attempt to speak to the vagrant.
When I asked the Sergeant how he found me, he said he just Googled match directors in Louisiana and came up with a "Dustin" that runs a couple of shooting matches. He took a shot that the guy was confused and contacted me. I told him that I understood and that I knew who was on the water tower and that even though he's known me for 3 years and we've traveled the country together shooting, he still occasionally forgets my name and blames it on "something not quite there" after a hard week of work in the sun, then he usually tells me that I have some advantage in life because my trigger finger is longer than his.
Anyway, it ended up being Jerry on the tower and I told the Sergeant I'd get him down. I promised Jerry I wouldn't tell what all we talked about but he told me several times that the black pot was going over the rail with him after it. They were no longer a good team. It was all over. The only way I got him to come down the ladder with me instead of over the rail was to remind him that WE were a good shooting team and he still has lots to teach me about spotting and soon we would be able to beat those damn Texans with their award winning gumbos that no one will eat and their perfect scores and their child molester white vans. We just have to KEEP TRYING and NEVER GUVE UP!
He came down. It was dramatic and I'm still shaking a little but we made it. Jerry is currently in lockup awaiting bail. Like I said, this could be related to the gumbo cookoff but I can't be sure.

It's ALL Motl's fault. He's the real culprit. I understand HE bribed the judges to force Jerry over the edge to disrupt Dustin's Sunday comeback. A twisted evil plot for sure.

Looks like a poor job of Photoshop! Stick to flying!
Jerry and I are basking in our retirement! Hope that the continued matches will be even better than our matches! I may come out of shooting retirement if I can think of a way to sandbag!
