NRA Tournament Issues from Headquarters
2012 was a nightmare year from the Tournament Division not receiving documentation and payments.....etc. I just received an, "Unreported Tournament Notice," in todays mail. Long story short. I emailed Mrs. Chin and copied Barry Ranney, Tournament Program Director, expressing their internal division documentation problems in 2012 and hope I'm not going to see this in 2014.
Long story short. If this keeps up, I told them it is not worth my time to be their babysitter with proof, and might as well no longer have NRA SB Tournaments and shoot for fun like two other clubs are now doing in our area the past 5 years.
I sent them food for thought......for what it is worth in regard to their tournament personnel. In 2013, I had no issues from them.
I sent a full page letter today and stating too, "i don't expect to hear from Mrs. Chin and company, any more in the future." "If I do, we might be another club to add to the FUN SB Silhouette shooting clubs of America."
I am just another Tournament Director that may call it quits at the end of this year. If someone else wants to pick it up, that would be nice. I don't need the aggravation from them every year due to their poor internal documentation. I do have several other activities I am involved in and more energy can easily go there. I don't need frustration from the NRA with their letters and waiting for another letter and finding and sending back proof.
Anyway, I thought I would express what is on my mind and perhaps have someone pick up where I might leave off, if anyone wants too. There might be one fellow that would want to step in to be Club and State Silhouette Director.

No one will step up and take over as long as you are there. Been there done that. I was our local GC IDPA match director for 10 years. Guys I need a break, who would like to take my place? (0) volunteers. You have to walk away. Guess what, someone stepped up and said, well, maybe I could try it. Congratulations Mr. Match Director.
NRA, my opinion, just like the government. They have forgotten there roots, and how they got where they are. The little guy, us. This will put a bee in the bonnet I'm certain.
Dustin has a post on some of these same things. Maybe this should be over there. I believe it pertains to both. My opinion again, ( I agree with him) some changes need to happen. 1/5 scale along with the other silhouette matches, is an acquired taste. This sport will have a hard time surviving until Mr. or Ms. John Doe can come out with there 10-22's and 3x9 scope and be competitive. Who do you know wants to come out and shoot at something the have a slim chance of hitting. Our club along with some others shoot a 1/2 scale fun match, (because the NRA doesn't have that one listed, it's just a fun match). At our club, the turn out is better for that match, than our regular 1/5 scale NRA sanctioned match. Know why, they can bring what they have (Not a 2,500.00 gun, and 10.00 a box ammo) shoot, hit some critters and have a good time. They could care less about it being a sanctioned NRA match,(to join our club, NRA membership is mandatory). Not everyone has the time and money to invest, and the want to, too become a good silhouette shooter. Us, old school (ME) are losing ground in more ways than one. Change is a hard pill to swallow. But it will have to change, or it will break.
Stay Safe,
Mark

This is exactly the type of thing that could be avoided with a simple online reporting system. At least the reporting part of it, online payments might be a little more difficult...
Is there some documentation somewhere on exactly what the process is for reporting on matches? I can always ask our director if there isn't an easy place to see all of this.

When you register a match or get a match approved the silhouette department sends you a big pile of paper with all kinds of useless crap - included is a description for reporting matches and the relevant forms that need to be filled out and snail-mailed to the NRA.OldRanger wrote:Is there some documentation somewhere on exactly what the process is for reporting on matches? Re: NRA Tournament Issues from Headquarters
I have not heard back from Greg or Chin or Ranney and did ask yesterday if they have a software IT person that could write some software where every thing, but the mailed check, could be done online to save the NRA money. They still do not know how to communicate via e-mail after 20 years, and Greg still uses the phone. I don't think Chin or Greg know how to use a computer.
Several months ago, i did get an reply from Barry Ranney on some other matter.
Today, I will send an attachment of the approved Tournament 2014 date form to further let them know they still have an internal document recording problem and if has been corrected from 2 days ago.
Someone mentioned the Grand Slam. I think we have one shooter to complete his, needs the Turkeys. I might just mention that to see where he stands in the NRA system. He still has his receipts that I have mailed in for proof.....anyway.
Anyway, I will continue to find out where they have internal problems, if they will admit to it? I will address Ranney, where the problems lie and what needs to be done to improve. We will see if everything......... still has to go through Greg.
I am not holding my breathe over receiving their comments, but can always go higher up the chain to see if they can look into the Tournament Dept problems. Not much else to do and will keep banging on NRA's door and will send them the link to steel chickens NRA complaint dept in a few days.

If you do hear back from them (yeah right) let them know I am a computer programmer by trade and would gladly build them the reporting system for free. Given what they already have for data it really wouldn't be hard or take too long to whip up the scoring side of things.

Piggies, truthfully, I don't remember which gun, I was shooting same gun for both, and it was borrowed as well. Seems I do better with others rifles, broke the womens 60 record in air rifle years ago with Limey's rifle then.

Going into the 3rd day and not hearing from our Friendly NRA Tournament Department, I sent them some more documentation and asked if everything is okay? Maybe I will receive another letter in the mail saying their issues have been corrected and they apologize...........

Good on ya Mary! That's totally awesome!
Mark if you think a letter writing campaign from various match directors around the country would help say the word. If they're not keen on getting with the times inundating them with snail mail about getting with the program might help, or not, but would be worth a stamp and 10 minutes on the word processor.
