Silhouette Practice Rig
The practice range I use does not allow metal targets or metal stands, so I adapted...
First off, I went a bought some self-sealing reactive targets and bases here:
http://newboldtargets.com
Starting with the target stand I had already made for range use:

I added supports on top for the silhouette rack:

Attached the targets and bases onto a 2X4:

Side view:

Set silhouette rack on stand:

Back view:

Time for some practice! The silhouette rack can easily be removed if I just want to fire at paper.

Your rig looks real spiffy, have you a chance to try it? How much resistance did you get when you proposed this outfit to your club’s “safety committee”? When I went to the Newbold website for some reason the chickens looked to be more the size for HP, am I wrong or is there another set for .22’s?

His link is to the large ones, at the bottom of the page is a link that doesn't have the word large in it. But it never does say exactly what size they are.

I buy all my guns from t-rex. He's a small arms dealer.

Re: Silhouette Practice Rig
There are two different sizes: http://newboldtargets.com/product-categ ... lhouettes/
Not sure how big the large size is, but the regular size chickens I bought are 1/5th scale.
I didn't propose anything at a safety committee....I don't practice on the same range I compete on. The practice range I use is on a wildlife management area and they don't allow steel targets of any kind.

Re: Silhouette Practice Rig
Thanks guys, it makes sense they have two sizes. As for a safety committee the Board of Directors, of which I am a part, makes all such decisions. Besides the typical Skeet/trap fields we have a 100 yard plinker range and a 300 yard HP range on which we hold registered shoots. As part of the 300 yard range we have a smallbore silhouette set up which is unfortunately not now used. We also have a 50 yard pistol range where we can shoot .22 rifles. This range gets the least use of all and this is where I was thinking of using them. As part of the safety rules paper targets are all that is supposed to be used, but we do allow people to place old clay targets on the berm and plink away at them. There is always the request to do something besides punch holes in paper and this is where I thought we could have something fun at which to shoot.
