22LR barrel match grade
What's up shooters I got a question to ask, what's a good choice for a barrel to install on a Anschutz 54 1807. I know shilen are very good but what do you think about lilja, benchmark barrels, brougton barrel or muller works barrels. The rifle would be a standard class ,thanks for all the feedback. Hope you all enjoyed your holidays and hope to all at some shooting events peace

Broughton is my favorite flavor, and Dan Lilja has a great product. The others I have no personal experience with.

I have Lilja's on all my SB's and if it means anything a lot of 4P shooters use them as well.

My latest 6.5 is the 5c, and I believe the last 22rf was also 5c, but I haven't confirmed that.danthebulldog wrote:Bcloninber, which barrel twist did you go with the 4c or the 5c

Does the Anschutz barrel have a problem ? All those names are good, none better than factory. Add delay expense and chance of gunsmith errors replacement of perfectly good factory barrel barrel rarely pays.

Really good point! It is possible to wear out an Anschutz barrel, but for most of us the only reasons for changing are aesthetics, balance, weight if the rifle is coming in heavy, or profile if the factory barrel is untapered and you want to qualify it for Hunter class.boats wrote:Does the Anschutz barrel have a problem ? Every situation is different , most improvement will come from better ammo. I had a match 54 smallbore prone rifle with thousands of round through the barrel. thought about remodeling to a Silhouette rifle, came out better selling it and buying a new 1712. If hunter class it's good as you can get right out of the box.

One reason to rebarrel is if you are building a franken hunter. 54:18 has a straight barrel with a sight nubbin on the end. Other is weight. Some people want a lighter rifle or to be able to put the weight farther back instead of all in the barrel. Some people just like change.... It's not a bad thing. Keeps barrel makers and gunsmiths in business.

Re: 22LR barrel match grade
Its great to have a super accurate rifle. Its great to retube to a kreiger, lilja, hart or whatever. But, in our game accuracy is secondary to balance. In our game we really don't need a gun that shoots 1/4" @ 100yds. Its nice but not necessary. An 1" to 1 1/4" @ 100yds is more than adequate. I'm a little different than most, I shoot a Walther KK, that I had rebarrelled in 2000 with a Douglas Premium Air Gage with a match chamber. Its was literally half the cost of the others. It shoots all day with Eley Target in that 1" range @100yrds. I also did something that was in vogue at the time, was ala Anshutz : a 19" bbl fitted for a bloop tube for adjustable balance (with bbl weights). Now, its old school as most shoot Standard and Hunter with the same rifle, but my setup is fine. The stock, which is a stock Walther thumbhole is probably the most comfortable stock I ever shot. I believe someone back in the day was making replica Walther stocks in glass for high power shooting, but I was never able to get any info on it. Just saw a photo in the Shooting Sports one year. Don't spend more, spend smart

A low cost alternative is to get a Ruger 10/22 barrel and have gunsmith adapt it to fit he Anschutz action.
