Retro Standard Rifle
What would you set up for a retro standard rifle outfit. Have a El Paso Weaver T 16 with a moa dot. It's probably 1965. Thinking one of the Remington's same period. Nothing altered or so rare and expensive its unobtainable, rules out Winchester 52s
Have a 1712 with a Leopold just want a fun gun , all suggestions appreciated .

Get a CMP 40-X, replace the stock with the McMillan, drop on your scope. Enjoy.boats wrote:What would you set up for a retro standard rifle outfit. Have a El Paso Weaver T 16 with a moa dot. Re: Retro Standard Rifle
Boats, On of the more popular guns around here back in the 80's was the 540X Remington. I had one, wish I'd have kept it.

540x is what I am thinking. I don't think I can get a 40x to make weight with a correct period stock. New synthetic yes, not looking for new though.

Re: Retro Standard Rifle
Are you talking 'hunter' or 'standard'?
There have been many 40x rifles in the standard class.

Standard rifle. Steel Weaver T 16 is pretty heavy too 40x may make weight if modified, I want no alteration from factory. Correct me if I am wrong. Meanwhile will see if I can find 40 x factory specs from a old gun digest

Re: Retro Standard Rifle
The most common configurations of the 40-X may have trouble making weight if you leave the 28 inch barrel unaltered, not to mention the factory supplied 3-P fence post (stock).boats wrote:Standard rifle....40x may make weight if modified, I want no alteration from factory....
I assumed your desire was to have an "ideal" standard rifle built on a classic chassis. I'm unaware of any factory 40-X configurations that are closely aligned with Standard rifle specs.

I've got a Walther KKM in a Walther UIT stock I'd be willing to sell. Great two stage trigger. No sights. If I remember correctly, it was made in '61. However, it is pretty heavy, so it might not make weight. I'll give you a good price on it though.

Re: Retro Standard Rifle
Thanks but just sold a Anschutz Super Match 54 that would have had the same weight and remodel issues. That scope was on a 64 MS 25 years ago probably the best choice if I go forward with my "Retro"plan. Other option would be one of the Remington 540's
It's just a project, have a modern competitive outfit
