I don't have to do the research myself, we have scientists for that!
You believe everything you read and hear?

Well, I will say that I eat my own chicken and goose eggs, do some of my own mechanical work, paint my own house, do a little of my own cooking from scratch, grow my own citrus, and when I can I grow my own vege's.
I trust my own instincts on my what I feel with my body, not that I do not go to a doctor when feel the need to, but I do recognize that I am only paying them for their edcuated opinion, they are not God, I can take or leave their opinion for what it is.
It appears to me sir that you believe what ever someone says, writes as long as they do so with some authority (whether it is valid or not)...what a shame you can't think for yourself.
You still have not stated your creditials or given a source for finding it.

Heyyyy! I'm the token liberal around here!

I accept the majority view on global warming, that it is occurring and that human activity has something to do with it, but also know it could be part of a natural process. Either way, we need to understand it better.

As recently as the 1960's, there were similar arguments over our use of insecticides and their effect on wildlife and some rejected the notion that human activity could significantly pollute something so huge as the ocean. So while it is certainly possible that so much of the scientific community is wrong, they have made their case and the burden of proof is on the minority.

Attacking the data analysis without providing specifics is a debate trick, not proof, and arguing for delay so more data can be collected is a delay tactic most people will ignore. Our information about the Little Ice Age predates modern data collection equipment and methods, but we still use the information.

Legislators will begin passing laws based on the prevailing science sooner rather than later, so valid scientific argument needs to come front and center real soon. We need to get this right.

How many dead people are voting for these legislators? Who is running for office? On second thought who would want to spend a day around those in office? Do these hummers even know what they are looking at when they go on their dog and pony tours? They sure as hell aren't listenting to the operators of the equipment.

All I'll say on the global warming issue is when I was in southern France and at a castle on the Mediterranean from the back side they used to have their boats right to the southern wall and now the Mediterranean is about 500 yards way and 5 foot lower. Hmmmm... makes me think that the water level at that time was about what they say it will rise to if the ice melts. Another puzzlement is Greenland, why would they call it that unless it was 'green' and not frozen.

Climate change is cyclical I'm sure and while we may have contributed to it speeding up a change we have little effect on the overall picture.

545 People By Charlie Reese

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel
Newspaper (April 22, 2008). This is the simplest, most
understandable and truest explanation of the woes of the nation and
who caused them, as well as how to cure them. This should be sent to
every person in the United States, including the '545'.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems
and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the
Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against
inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on
appropriations. The House of Representatives does

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank
does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President and nine
Supreme Court justices: 545 human beings out of the 300 million are
directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the
domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that
problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated
its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally
chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound
reason. They have no legal authority.
They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a
president to do one cotton-picking thing.
I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in
cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No
matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's
responsibility to determine how he or she votes.

These 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you
that what they did is not their fault.

They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an
excessive amount of gall.

No normal human being would have the gall of the Speaker, who stood
up and criticized the President for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the
Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole
responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and
approving appropriations and taxes.
Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority
party. She and fellow House members, not the President, can approve
any budget they want.

If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they
agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not
replace 545 people who stand convicted by present facts of
incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable
directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the
power of the federal government, then it must follow that what
exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.
If the Marines are in Iraq, it's because they want them in
Iraq. The President cannot unilaterally declare war The President
needs the approval of Congress, as well as the budget from Congress
to continue a war.

If they do not receive Social Security but are on an elite
retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want
it that way. There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom
they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts
and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the
power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists
disembodied mystical forces like 'the economy,' 'inflation' or
'politics ' that prevent them from doing what they take an oath
to do.

These 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they
alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who
are their bosses provided the voters have the gumption to manage
their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Certainly not. Has it not been clear that I don't believe YOU?

I don't need any credentials to accept the prevailing scientific opinion. I am not claiming to have done the actual research and come to my own conclusions. You, on the other hand, claim personal knowledge that the research of others is flawed and their conclusions are incorrect. That type of claim requires that you establish your qualifications.

Can't you understand that my point that of "the consensus is" is entirely different, and requires an entirely different degree of proof than your argument that "the people that did the work are stupid and lazy"?

Do you seriously not see a difference there?

Nah - I'm on the side of the fence that thinks global warming is occurring and that we are at least partially responsible. But debate is the nature of good science so I am listening, and will not resort to name calling to win an argument. This is too important.

Bob,
Charley Reese...one of the greatest writers I have ever read and local to Florida. Thanks for posting that.

Carl, I have seen the results of what people write/say because they sell themselves to whomever controls the purse, not because it is what they saw and recorded. No, I do not believe everything I read, see on TV or any other form of drama. I am capabale of thinking for myself, and do observe for myself. My nose is not brown, I am not rich nor do I care to be, I have seen the results of greedy people and what havoc they create, whether it be greed for money or greed for power.
Give me my rifle, a hammock, my dogs and I'll crawl into my liitle corner of a marsh or desert and survive. My child and friends are far more important in life than worrying about trying to educate stupid people.

But then do you know the difference between stupid and dumb?

Bob,

I was not going to post a long reply; however, since you were kind enough to put a long explanation about the bullshit, I thought that the following could help Carl.

I am enjoying this thread immensely!
