Most who know me know I work in a factory sewing. The company furnishes our scissors. To make a long story short the person they have sharpening our scissors knows nothing about what they are doing. This in mind I got hold of an exceptionally bad pair, cut, felt a pop in my elbow and ended up with tendonitis (basically tennis elbow).
I was called into the company nurses office a couple days later and asked about my silhouette shooting and was informed "You will have to quit that so you can continue to work" ..... I did tell them that they moved me to where I have to work every other weekend and wasn't getting to shoot much so they shouldn't worry. It was all I could do to not reply that it would happen when hell managed to freeze over, and had they lost their minds.

So my question is this ... anyone know where I can get a job ? LOL

Consult a labor attorney ASAP! It sounds like they're building a case to deny workmen's compensation. HR and the company nurse are not your friends.

I do not know what the Alabama workmans comp laws are like but I can only imagine that they are not much different that Florida law.
Having been pushed into settling a 14 year old back/neck injury case this year I can only say that my opinion of the legal system is low, and the opinion of workmans comp adjusters and "advocates" are even lower.

1) Do not attend any of the workmans comp doctors visits without another adult uninterested party...makes the doctors clam up a bit and be a little more cautious about bullying you.

2) Write down all conversations immediately or record them, with all parties knowledge.

3) In Florida most workmans comp lawyers will at least listen you for free and work on contingency basis, if you are not happy with the results, move on and find another one.


The Florida legislators have certainly moved the settlements in the favor of the insurance companies (check out the size of their lobbists)

Most of all, trust your gut feeling on your medical conditions. I was supposed to have had back surgery over five years ago, and I intend to not have it, as long as I can get up and work, and do most normal things, I do work closely with a chiro, but I must admit that I went through three of them before I have found one that seems to keep me going.

To follow up with a little more detail, get the recommendation in writing along with the reasons. They may misunderstand the kind of shooting you do if all they know is shotguns and high power or position shooting. Air rifles and small bore should not aggravate the problem, but I'm not a kinesiologist and neither is the company nurse. Discuss this with them on the off chance that it is a simple misunderstanding.

Mary has given sound advice, and I don't want to know what kind of price she had to pay for it - it sounds awful. And that's why I never tried going back and making a claim for my back injuries.

Thanks for the advice .. I have already had problems with the workmans comp stuff at a previous job. The thing about the tendonitis is it wasn't that bad ... sore a couple of day ... ibuprophen and one of the tennis elbow straps. They were much more worried about my shooting than I was my arm.
More sick of the $600 a month lost pay when they moved me to days (that is if I get to work a full pay period) on top of not getting to shoot because I have to work most the match weekends.
Funny thing is most of my coworkers can tell when I have gotten to shoot they say I am in a much better mood when I come in.

Shooting is great therapy and everyone needs something that breaks their routine to stay fresh.

Just do the right thing - but protect yourself.
