The Republicans had no campaign... it was the worst run piece of crap I've ever seen. There were 100's of issues and questions and they choose to ignore them and as a result lost by a huge margin. To bad we now have to suffer because of it.

Be fair - Bush is hugely unpopular and instead of "tax & spend" we were confronted with "borrow & spend" by a party that had talked fiscal responsibility and smaller government but delivered record deficits and phenomenal growth in government and destruction of personal privacy. Never mind the reasons, people don't like it and McCain had to campaign against that.

McCain probably couldn't deliver the message he wanted to without betraying Bush (and remember that his sense of loyalty is legendary) or delivering the message his party had already discredited by their behavior in office. That just didn't leave him much to work with. Give the man some credit for working his ass off to run an honorable campaign in a contaminated environment.

Then the economy tanked worse than any of us can remember - again, never mind that the causes can be traced back 20 years and both parties contributed, it happened on Bush's watch. I'd just say screw it and go to the range with a favorite rifle, a case of ammunition and extra sandwiches. Inhale Eley primer until the votes were counted.

Call a spade a spade. You can say what you want about McCain and his sense of loyalty to Bush, but that is a crock of bullshit! Why do you think that 8 years ago he could not get the nomination? Because he is a total dumbass. Fuck his straight talk express and town hall bullshit. He could have attacked a true Muslim Socialist and chose to take the "high" road. Personally I voted for Palin - a true kick ass conservative!

They should take all of the assholes that were running the McCain campaign and are now bashing Palin and send them out of the country.

Mary, I was thinking of McCain's refusal to leave North Vietnam without the other POW's. Like all humans, he does have feet of clay and his are public.

And yes, I lived through the Carter years and can think of several reasons to be angry with him, so you'll have to nail that reference down a bit.

As for Vietnam era vets, I am one, not all the fighting took place in Vietnam, and as a group we can be angry for a number of reasons. Sometimes we don't even need a reason - if you even went through an airport in uniform during those years, you understand.

Ducky, you are right on. The republicans were acting like democrats. If I I want socialism (all the free hand-outs) why should I vote for the socialist wanna-bees when I can vote for the real thing.

The conservatives, no matter what party, need to get their smelly brown stuff together and promote a smaller and more responsible government.

Mary, you are also right. Way too many don't remember Carter and the pain and humiliation we went through thoes 4 years.

Ducky is right about one thing, the era of white guilt should be done, and with it the era when racism is tolerable. And before anyone else chimes in, yes, that means from anyone of any race. If it was ever excusable, that time is past for all of us. And no, I don't give a damn who started it.

An incredible amount of crap was thrown in this election and tenaciously clung to - even now. In the beginning I tried to research the accusations, but so many of them were groundless that I finally just demanded proof. Got a damning tape of (I won't even repeat the accusation)? Let's see it. Put up or shut up. Why cling to garbage after it stinks?

Guilt by association? I've known bank robbers, mass murderers, prostitutes, drug dealers and more white collar criminals than I can remember, yet, somehow, I'm none of those. Go figure. So okay, there may be other crimes I won't confess.

Now, can't we please just get on with the hard work of putting this country back together?
