williams sights on 1894

Post by glen ring »

I finally put a Williams receiver sight on my Marlin 1894. I noticed a vast improvement in sight picture but the aperture looks a little large for Pistol cartridge Silhouette. Can anyone give me an idea of a common size aperture?

G'Day
I use a .50" in all my cowboy rifles. This is made by williams so I couldn't see a contrevention to the rules. The supplied aperture is .93". Also tried the Twilight version but didn't like it.

I'm thinking that you might have a very hard time findind an apperature opening of .50 and .94 for a Williams rear peep sight.....but then, I have been wrong before.

I think Williams has those listed on their web site.

Being a machinist and all, I'm thinking you might mean an opening of .050 and .093, not .50 & .93.

.50 opening would be an opening of 1/2" and the .93 opening would be an opening of 15/16 of an inch.

Once again, I may be wrong, but I have the same apperatures and even the outside of the apperature ring is smaller than 1/2" in diameter.

A .050" is good for use with the factory front sight or with the supplied inserts that come with the Lyman 17 series front sights, if you use one of those. I use a .040" aperture with the small bead insert from Lee Shaver, as that combo seems to give me a more precise sighting setup. I have to drop back to the .050" aperture if the light is too low, though.

Use the Merit Adjustable Aperture Eyepiece, much better option.

I agree with TX. I have the Merit disk on the 3 guns I use for Lever action silhouette.

Do you have a link for a webpage with more info on that? It would sure make things easier for me if it didn't cost enough to make me run away. :)

Brownells sells them for 56.00 for a Williams receiver sight. Add 10.00 to that if you want the Master Series. Page 218 , Catalog # 61

They have ten (10) click adjustable settings from .022 dia. to .125 Dia. openings.
