Finally made it to the range with the new rifle yesterday and got it sighted in. No groups yet, but the function is every bit as beautiful as it looks! Balance is perfect, despite all the hollowing and trimming Evelio did to get it in weight. Broughton #5 contour barrels are heavier than expected, so get one of their lighter contours or have it fluted. I'm very happy with the barrel, particularly heat dissipation, but it's heavy.

If you like single single stage triggers, definitely get Stiller's cerracoated Timney trigger. I'd put one on my 1712 if they made one, it's that good.

The only change I'd make is a lighter barrel, and even that is debatable. Ask me again when I burn this one out!

Glad to see your jumping into the HP game, Bear. How close is your range to you ? What bullets , powder, etc. are you planning to test?

I hear you Bob, but the nearest HP range for me is Virginia....shorter for me to fly out west. Something about Coates not earning enough money to stop raiding my fridge yet that will hold me back some.

So far Sierra Matchking 140's, and I believe the powder was Reloader 15. Seems like Kitty's last experiment involved Varget and 123 grain Matchkings, and he and Kolby were talking about trying Scenar. Trust me, the recipe is checked closely and Kitty keeps an eye on my rookie efforts - he doesn't want the rifle hurt. I think he has plans for it should any of my plumbing work turn bad...

What?? Why's everybody looking at me that way??? Just cause I convince a shootin buddy with a bad heart to build a really nice Highpower gun to my specs....There's noting going on here...move along peacefully now.....

Anyway, the loads we shot Sunday were 140 SMK's over 35 grains of Reloader 15 with WW primers....Load shot VERY well in both 'Bear's gun and mine. I expect well end up with 36 grains of Vartet or 35 grains of Reloader 15 and 107 SMK's for Chickens, Pigs and Turkeys and 35 grains of Reloader 15 and 142 gr SMK's for the Rams.

My experience with the 6.5X47L is that it likes a nearly full case of whatever your preference is...The Reloader 15 seems a bit better than Varget, especially with the heavier bullets...I've shot 107's, 123's, 140's and 142's out of mine and it liked them all. We've got a few different bullets we'll try out...Want to take a good look at the Lapua Scenars' and some Bergers I have on hand.
