The more and more I think about this the more I think we have become a boring crowd. I mean that in the nicest way.

It seems that we are close minded to Anschutz and Leupold. We need to diversify!

Pete I just sent A scope to Leupold and they installed A 1/2 min dot. Only cost $60 and had it back in 2 weeks.

Forgive him Mike, he's getting up there now and we have to keep an close eye on him as he gets confused easily anymore and this is also why we try not to let him go out of town on his own ;) . What he meant to say was Leupold, will not put the 5/8's dot Tom at Premier used for his Silhouette scopes in a warranty job, nor will they work on the 18x-40 conversions Precision did. They will honor the warranty on all the Premier Leupold scopes, but on the 18x40 boosted ones they put them back to the original 6.5x20 and whatever dot they normally use, unless you specify otherwise on the dot size.

I'm not exactly sure when they stopped making the Walther silo. Mine is a KK. I know the position rifles are up to KK300. For me, the stocks are the most confortable I ever shot. You can put a straight blade trigger shoe (ala anschutz) as the originals were curved, to get a feel of an Anschutz triggers. You can reliably get them down to ounces. If your going to shoot 1 gun for both, then obviously the 1712 is the way to go. But, you will be paying a premium. Can't go wrong either way.

It's all opinion but seems to me all the rifles you mention are not up to either Anschutz standard or the worked over 541 you already have. Be nice to find something for cash in hand but if it's not upgrading might as well save it towards a custom or 1712

This Post was not only made to get the opinions of people that know much more about Silo shooting than I do about what gun I will be purchasing next. I consider myself to be very fortunate in being able to add to my collection. While I wlll be using this new (to me) rifle for Silo shooting as well as casual shooting as well as simply adding to the guns that I already have.

While the opinions receieved was and is genuinely appreciated, I was none-the-less a tad disappointed in the "Anschutz" above all remarks. While I agree that the ultimate Silo gun is an Anschutz, they are mostly far above the $900 budget amount. I am surprised at the lack of diversity and opinions on other rifles such as: Walther, CZ's, Brnos, Remingtons, Savage-Anschutz, Winchesters, etc.

I am going to make an offer today on a Walther KKJ-T. It has some very nice looking wood, a great trigger, and a left handed Monte Carlo with right handed bolt, which happens to fit my shooting style..... as I am right handed but shoot a long gun from the left shoulder. (left eye dominant) WIth the Scope, rings and mounts it comes in at around half of my budget. It will either be that or I will make an offer on a Remington 541-S. Still vascillating between the two........ Hopefully will make a decision today.

Steve guys on this forum are Silhouette shooters not gun collectors not surprised at the answers. Look at the equipment list from major matches likely to see the same Anschutz favor.

If you do happen to buy the Walther KKJ-T, I'd love to see some pictures of it. I've heard about that model before, but haven't seen or held one.

I mentioned the Winchester 52, I use the remake and also have several of the Browning 52's. The stock trigger in the Jap remakes suck, but they can be lightened with the removal of a roll pin in the adjustment screw.

Bob White at Shooters corner has one of the Jap 52's listed, also a early Kimber 82 like mine, Kimbers trigger is nice but I think 52 is the better rifle. At the time I set the Kimber up we had the 7 1/2 lb rule and would scale. 52's would not make sporter weight. Now I expect they make it easy. If that Walther is the one I am thinking of it has the typical German extreme drop comb. It's not a easy stock to shoot for most.

I saw a photo of that stock (Walther) and your right. I was talking about a Walther KK-Silohuette that was made for a time then discontinued. How about a Remington 40x. I think they made a sporter version. Almost exact copy of a 700 action. At least you can put a Canjar or Jewel trigger on them.

I have one with a Canjar trigger.....too heavy for hunter with the scope but nice rifle.
