Need to make weight

Headed to winnsboro. Gun weighs 8.82 on the scale not 8.5. It is a 1712 with a leupold 6.5-20 with warne rings. Susan has the same set up but with a leupold fixed 30. Took the adj caps off. Pulled the sling studs.

What's next?

Looking forward to shooting my first match and a life time of getting beat by my wife!

Ok Susan just reminded me that the scale needs to say8.8

If your scales reads in pounds only, it needs to say 8.50lbs or less. If your scales reads in pounds and ounces, it needs to say 8lb 8.0oz or less. If it says 8.8lbs, then you're 4.8oz over the limit.

to get my 1710 to make weight I switched from a 6.5-20 to a fixed 25 -- saved almost 3 ounces!

Before I switched to a Steve Wooster stock, I had to remove the buttplate of my 1710 and drill behind it.....but before I could drill behind it, I had to borrow a carbide drill bit! Them beautiful Meister-class stocks that came with the 1710s were muy hard, muy hard!

Warne rings are heavy... switch to BKL's and bore out behind the buttplate. The 1712's were made for this game and should be within range anyway. If you don't have time to get it done, bring it anyway and we'll fix it there. Won't be the first time....

I've used the BKLs and even Weaver bases with Weaver extension rings and still made weight with an EFR and no other accommodations. I don't know much about Warne rings, but sounds like that could be an issue. Particularly dense walnut (while often beautiful) can be a pain to get down in weight. Drills, mills, routers and such.....tsk, tsk, tsk. But I've done it a couple of times.

I have a set of BLK 257's. Going to try that tonight. I just didnt care for the extra height. Ill see how it goes. right now the scale says 8 lbs 8.2 oz so i am really close. worst case i have to do a little work at the range.

Susans gun with the fixed 30X is just fine. being a brand new shooter she told me i cant have that scope, all the movement will goof me up i guess. Some times i listen to her

With a Leupold 6.5-20 EFR and BLK's I was under with my 1712, so you should be fine.

Blk rings did it. 8 lbs 7.2 ozs

Hope it will hold up after the humidity gets to the stock! Really don't want to have to drill the stock.
